For many years in my entrepreneurial journey, I felt completely alone.
I started young—selling things as a teenager, dabbling in small ventures before I even understood the weight of the word “entrepreneur.” But after university, landing my first job, moving to France, and eventually returning to Jamaica, I made a conscious decision: I wasn’t just going to be a musician; I was going to build a business that would facilitate my music.
I registered my name, studied business best practices, and reimagined how the creative arts could operate like a serious enterprise. That mindset opened doors—big ones. I became a Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI) Professional Fellow in 2018, one of 250 young leaders across the Caribbean and Latin America. This led me into business leadership spaces where I found mentorship, resources, and connections that expanded my vision.
But even with all these achievements, I couldn’t shake the feeling that in my most familiar spaces, I was the odd one out.
My friends and family supported me as best as they could, but they didn’t truly understand me. In their world, success meant stability—a secure job, a predictable paycheck, a clear career path. Meanwhile, I was charting my own course, turning my ideas into income, working from my home office, making moves that felt invisible to those around me.
Even those friends who had stepped into self-employment seemed to be recreating the same 9-to-5 structure—just without a boss. That was never my dream. I didn’t just want freedom; I wanted to build something big, expansive, and impactful.
It wasn’t until I reconnected with a friend who was already playing big that something shifted. She was boldly building, expanding, and embracing a no-limits mindset—and just being around that energy reignited my own. Suddenly, I wasn’t the odd one out. I was in a space where nothing was impossible, where ambition wasn’t something to justify but something to be celebrated.
And now, I finally feel like I belong.
I’m no longer just dreaming big—I’m building big. My company is growing in a way that not only sets me up for massive success but also creates opportunities for a team of incredible talent. We’re developing brands, products, and services that reflect the bold vision I’ve always had, without the need to justify or shrink it down to fit anyone else’s expectations.
For so long, I felt like I had to make my work palatable, something that made sense to those around me. But now? I own what I do. I don’t need it to fit a mold. I don’t need it to be “comfortable” for others.
And the best part? Everything I am today—everything my work represents—is exactly what I’ve always envisioned. I’ve even been able to revisit past ideas and bring them to life, proving to myself that no dream was ever too big.
Now, I get to pursue it all relentlessly, no matter how big it gets. And that is the most freeing, exhilarating feeling.
I’m happy. I’m ready. And I finally have a community that gets it. If you desire to learn more about what I am building, feel free to visit www.abctsolutionsltd.com when you get a chance. Be sure to bring a friend (or corporate interest) or two.
